Teething in Baby
A new born baby has no teeth in the oral cavity, instead the baby has gum pads, from where the milk teeth erupt starting from the age of six months. Teething or teeth eruption is a very challenging time for the kids as well as the parents because it can be a little painful and causes a lot of discomfort to the child. Since they can’t complain we often find them crying or getting very fussy and that’s why they need to be handled with care in such times.

And to help you sail smoothly through this teething period, the topic for Todays discussion is all the different ways to soothe your baby during their teething .
But before that, let’s know the symptoms which your child shows during teething :
- The child becomes very irritable and cries a lot.
- The gums become tender and swollen.
- Kids can have low grade fever as well.
- Diarrhoea is another symptom.
The various ways of soothing the kids during teething are :
- Pacifiers: Teething toys or pacifiers are the best things to provide relief and comfort to the gums of a teething child. One can also place them in the refrigerator and give it to their child when they are cool enough and have a great soothing effect on the gums and help in relieving pain.

- Massaging the gums : massaging the gums is another way of relieving the pain. After cleaning your fingers, massage your child’s gums to provide relief.
- Cold damped clothes: Cool damp cloth placed in the fridge is a very good way to provide relief from pain during teething. Your child can chew on it just like a teething toy and be at ease. You can also freeze cucumbers or fruits for your kid, alongwith pacifying effect, the child can eat them later getting nutrition too from them.
- Keeping them clean from the drooling : your baby drools a lot when teething happens so keeping them clean or wiping the excess saliva drooling out will prevent further irritation and keep them away from rashes over the mouth.
- Taking care of them : Giving your baby the love and care they need or cuddling with them will provide them relief and help in sleeping . If you breastfeed your baby then giving them extra feeding time will help them to be at ease in a secure and safe environment thus lessening their irritability.
- Pain killers : when nothing helps then you can ask your doctor for a pain killer syrup which will help in relieving the pain but you need to know the exact dosage so as to prevent any side effects and help them to sleep.
The pain stops once the teeth erupt in the oral cavity but it takes a few months for all the teeth to erupt, so the measures are not just for a day, the baby needs your care and warmth.
