Dentures vs Dental Implants
People who need to replace their missing teeth often go for these treatment procedures such as getting complete, partial dentures or dental implants. However, do you know what is likely to work best for you?
Let’s talk about that first!
What is Denture? A denture is made by acrylic or other dental material like trevlon which is removable and used to replace the missing tooth in edentulous or partially edentulous patients. They have a denture base that fits your jaws properly due to the pressure inside your mouth and replicates a normal occlusion which helps in chewing food and even is aesthetically pleasing to the eyes.
Coming to dental implants, these are the fixed metallic implants in the oral cavity done in your jaws to provide a longer-lasting option for the missing teeth in your mouth. These are costlier than dentures and are therefore are more reliable in terms of the life of the implant.
Both dentures and implants are good in their own right, depending on the requirement. Let us discuss the differences in both of them more clearly to have a fair idea about them.
.
Dentures are more likely to be given in individuals whose ridges are good and supportive. Soft tissue nature of the oral cavity also plays a big role in it. Resorbed ridges can not support dentures properly and thus it’s not advised in such individuals.
Talking about implants, they can be given to people with resorbed ridges but only to some extent. Placing implants depends upon bone density. If the density of the bone is good it constitutes a favorable environment for implants because it can be fit and functional in the jaw.
Dentures are far cheaper options for people having a low budget whereas going for the implant can charge you a huge amount of money. Dentures have only dental materials that are not all that costly, but implants use high-quality titanium or other metals as it’s components thus it makes the whole thing a costly affair.
The lifespan of dentures are less compared to an implant because dentures are removable, so it can be broken, misplaced, wear off with time whereas implants are fixed in nature thus no such problems can occur to it but yes it can become loose with time because of changing bone density and cause implant failure. but on average an implant goes for 15 years minimum.
